A state-wide program that provides family-based care to children and adults with disability.

We care support services Family Options Program supports children and adults with disability to live in a carer’s home, as part of a respite, shared care or full-time arrangement. The state-wide program supports people with disability with a range of support needs.

I am interested in becoming a carer

Being a carer is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Supporting someone to explore and achieve their individual goals has been a life-changing experience for many of our carers.

Carers with We care support services Family Options Program come from a range of backgrounds; you can be single or have a partner, be with or without children, or be studying, working or retired. You don’t need previous experience as a carer but motivation, flexibility and commitment are important.

Our highest priority is the safety and wellbeing of individuals in care. Before becoming an accredited carer, you must undertake a comprehensive screening, training and assessment process. You will also be required to complete a Police Check and Working with Children Check.

Once you become an accredited carer, you receive ongoing training and support including coaching and mentoring opportunities. You will have access to 24 hour on-call support and while you are considered a volunteer, there is a generous tax free reimbursement.

We run regular information sessions to provide potential carers with the opportunity to learn more about the program and ask any questions.

I am looking for a carer

There can be a number of reasons why an adult or child with disability seek the support of a carer.

Carers help provide a supportive, nurturing and stable environment for children and adults, assisting them to meet their social, emotional, educational and support needs. We care support services Family Options Program is committed to the person with disability. Carers are selected for suitability based on factors such as their interests and capacity. We are committed to maintaining connections with family, friends and the local community.

We care support services is committed to the safety, protection and care of children and adults with disability. All carers are screened, trained and assessed before being carefully matched with an individual.

Types of care

  • Respite care: The adult or child with disability stays with a carer on a flexible or planned basis, which usually takes place overnight in the carer’s home.
  • Shared care: The adult or child with disability spends time with their birth family and stays with a carer/s for a night, weekend or extended break. Time is shared between the birth family and carers.
  • Full-time care: The adult or child with disability lives with a carer day-to-day, participating in everyday activities and family life. They may also

spend time with their birth family or other carers.
